BCS is an industry-leading cold chain logistics company based in Bellingham, WA.  We own and manage an inland warehouse and the largest portside cold storage center on the West Coast.

Job Description

Bellingham Cold Storage is looking for a qualified IT Support Specialist that will install and maintain computer systems and networks aiming for the highest functionality.  This position will report to the IT Manager.

These job duties are not a complete list of all duties and essential functions. BCS reserves the right to assign additional duties as needed

Duties

  • Responsible for the overall repair and maintenance of IT related hardware and infrastructure, which includes include configuring computer systems, diagnosing software problems, providing assistance in person or by phone or email, troubleshooting network problems, and testing new technologies
  • Responsible for maintaining wired and wireless networks within all company locations
  • Document and track all work using a ticketing system to ensure quick resolution
  • Stay abreast with technological developments and trends
  • Continuously seek ways in which to improve the safety of all company IT facilities, equipment and operations.
  • Work to keep the Company’s systems safe from intrusion, spam and malware:
  • Monitor security measures for the protection of computer networks and information
  • Ensure appropriate security controls are in place that will safeguard digital files and vital electronic infrastructure
  • Respond to computer security breaches and viruses
  • Work independently to monitor the network
  • Maintain company phone system including add/move phone lines and extensions
  • Assist with maintaining perimeter and video security systems
  • Respond to emergency hardware/system support requests outside of normal business hours
  • Other work and projects as assigned

Essential Functions

In addition to the above-referenced requirements, the essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to: regular attendance, required to meet the demands of this job and to provide necessary services; regular use of computers and computer equipment, including mice, keyboards and scanners, for long periods of time; the ability to move around two large campuses in order to complete job duties; standing, bending, twisting, kneeling potentially for long periods of time; a current driver's license & reliable transportation; expected to participate in learning new technologies and career development opportunities as presented in an effort to progress to higher level positions within the IT network. The position will also require supporting customers remotely, and respond to any network outage that occurs, even after hours.

  • Proven experience ( 3+ years) in computer networks and systems maintenance
  • Proven experience ( 2+ years) on current network operating systems
  • Demonstrated ability to remain flexible to changing demands and competing priorities
  • Work to efficiently asses, manage and prioritize multiple projects and requests
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience in providing desktop support
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication ability - oral and written
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills
  • In depth understanding of diverse computer systems and networks
  • Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
  • A self-motivated collaborator, looking to develop current skill set and take on stretch opportunities
  • Project management skills
  • Experience functioning as part of a team
  • Great customer service/people skills
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug test

Preferred Qualifications

  • AA Degree
  • Certification as IT Technician (e.g. CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional
  • Understanding of IT principles and an ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to a varied audience
  • Strong sense of discretion and confidentiality required
