Human Resource/Payroll Assistant

Alpha Technologies, which provides world-class powering solutions, seeks a Human Resource/Payroll Assistant to join its team in Bellingham, WA.  Under general supervision, this person will perform a variety of routine duties to process multi-company, multi-state payrolls. Outside of the biweekly payroll schedule, you will perform HR duties including recruiting, new hire processing, and special projects.   



Responsibilities:

  • Process regular payrolls on a biweekly basis; process manual checks as directed

  • Maintain employee personnel files; keep data organized

  • Maintain current and historic payroll work papers

  • Maintain current addresses for active and terminated employees

  • Enter new hires, status changes, and employees terminations in HRIS systems

  • Reconcile benefit deductions and process payments for health clubs, home and auto insurance, and EAP billing

  • Assist with open enrollment and benefit renewals/changes

  • Assist in leave of absence processing and intermittent leave tracking

  • Process benefit claims forms, including life and disability

  • Process commission payments and provide copies to employees

  • Assist with payroll system user support including password reset and user ID lookups

  • Maintain confidential information regarding personnel actions, legal actions, compensation, separations, and organizational plans

  • Maintain open door policy for all employees; helps maintain a positive employee climate with open communication and employee recognition programs

  • Prepare employment verifications and payroll reports upon request

  • Provide payroll data as requested for government and statistical reports

  • Assist with new hire processing including pre-employment screening and onboarding

  • Run recruitment ads and postings; conduct initial resume screening for managers

  • Assist with benefits tracking, data entry, and orientations

  • Assist with employee requisition tracking

  • Assist with company events and special projects



Additional Responsibilities may include:


  • Processing training records into SAP and maintain all employee training files

  • Serving as Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) program coordinator for the Bellingham facilities as needed




Requirements and Skills:


Education:   High School Diploma or equivalent  

   

Experience:  2 - 4 years in payroll, HR or office management


  • Excellent record of attendance

  • Ability to speak/read/write English

  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills

  • Work well under pressure

  • Record of excellent attendance and punctuality

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to work independently and as a team

  • Excellent data entry skills

  • Good problem solving skills

  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner

  • Good verbal and written communications skills




PC Application Skills:

Basic level:  Word. Outlook, Adobe

Intermediate level:  Excel


Other:  payroll software


Desirable:


  • SAP experience

  • Paylocity experience
